Obesity, in horses and ponies is a growing and largely underreported equine welfare issue which is leading to many serious health problems such as laminitis, insulin resistance, hyperlipaemia, strangulating lipoma. Obesity is the accumulation of excess adipose (fat) tissue and it is practically unheard of in wild herds so very much a disease of domestication.
